Fort Hawkins, the birthplace of Macon-Bibb County, preserves the history of an early American fort and frontier. The Fort Hawkins Commission has worked to preserve and promote the heritage of the site off Emery Highway, near the Ocmulgee National Monument and downtown Macon.
