Project focus: Macon-Bibb County Courthouse improvements · 2026
The courthouse at 601 Mulberry Street has served generations of Macon-Bibb residents. Warren Associates is helping prepare it for continued public service through a renovation program that brings together building improvements and the demands of an active civic facility.
Macon-Bibb County’s March 31, 2026 award notice names Warren Associates as construction manager at risk for the courthouse project. It is a substantial responsibility in a building where construction must be coordinated with daily operations.

A program organized around the existing building
BTBB Architects’ planning description sets out a three-phase approach. Its broad goals include improved building security and interior renewal, with work addressing flooring, walls, ceilings, lighting and restrooms. The phases distinguish work with relatively limited disruption from larger alterations and improvements that depend on earlier activities.
That sequence matters. In an existing courthouse, a room or circulation area can be part of a larger chain of dependencies. Thinking through those relationships is part of turning a set of improvements into a practical construction plan.
Construction alongside public service
The county’s project requirements call for the building to remain occupied while individual renovation areas are taken out of use. They also establish coordination with Court Services and continued access to unaffected public areas and offices.
For owners planning similar work, this highlights an essential question: how will the building function between the first day of construction and final turnover? A useful plan addresses the work area, the people who still need the building and the way each phase connects to the next. Communication belongs in that plan from the beginning.
A familiar landmark, a continuing role
Warren’s courthouse portfolio records that the current building was completed in 1924. Its long history adds perspective to the current investment: maintaining a public building means considering both the structure and the service it supports.
Through our construction management services, Warren works with owners and design teams on scope, schedule, cost and coordination. The courthouse project brings those responsibilities into an established downtown setting.
