About Warren Associates
Building Excellence Since 1971
Since its establishment in 1971 by C. Warren Selby Sr., Warren Associates, Inc., has built a solid reputation for integrity, dependability and quality workmanship.
The family-owned commercial builder has operated from Day One on Mr. Selby’s abiding philosophy: Treat employees, sub-contractors and customers as you would want to be treated yourself.
The Selby family’s steadfast adherence to this practice has enabled Warren Associates to become one of Georgia’s most respected and trusted commercial builders.
Mr. Selby had worked in commercial construction for many years before starting his own company. Since his retirement in 1993 as Warren Associates’ president, he remains chairman of the board and has had the satisfaction of seeing the business continue to grow under the leadership of his son C. Warren Selby Jr.
Warren Selby Jr.
President & CEO
As president and CEO, Warren Selby Jr. has maintained the honest business practices instilled by his father and guided Warren Associates into the forefront of Central Georgia’s most highly esteemed general contractors. The company’s expertise in managing complex and highly technical projects is one of its hallmarks, but that is just one reason hospitals, schools, churches, financial institutions and others repeatedly turn to Warren Associates.
Warren Selby Jr., was still in high school when he began working for his dad during weekends and summer vacations.
“I dug ditches, did whatever I was called upon to do,” he said. “You start at the bottom and work your way through the ranks. I value the knowledge and experience I gained in the field, and it also gave me the opportunity to learn how the business operates.”
In 1982, with a bachelor’s degree in building science from Auburn University, Warren Jr. returned home to join his dad full time in the business.
“Warren Associates is straightforward, ethical and honest, That’s why we’ve used them over and over. They’re highly skilled in the technical aspects, and when Warren Associates tells you they’re going to do something, they do it. They do what they say.” ~ Mike Gilstrap, Retired Medical Center of Central Georgia Administrator
In recent years, Warren Associates also has restored several of Macon’s historic downtown buildings, including old Lanier High School and the Thomas Jefferson Building, the first as doctor’s offices and medical labs, the second as an off-campus classroom site for Georgia College & State University. Both buildings are equipped for state-of-the-art technology but retain the charm of their period architecture.
Treating its people like family is part of the corporate culture at Warren Associates, and many employees have reciprocated by sticking around. Most of the Warren Associates team have been there many years, Vice President Chris Easterwood has been with the company for more than 31 years, and Superintendent Bill Newby for more than 47.
Warren Associates also demonstrates its concern for employees by its stellar jobsite safety record. Since 1971, the company has received annual recognition, from both the Association General Contractors and Georgia Department of Labor, for outstanding attention to safety.
Also to benefit its employees, Warren Associates has always operated within an area some 70 miles around Macon so that site supervisors can drive home to their families by nightfall.
“If a supervisor can be at home, it creates a good family life,” C.W. Selby Sr. said. “Constant travel doesn’t make for a good home life.”
Within the Macon area community, the Selby family has wielded a strong influence with its commitment to civic and social endeavors. Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Selby Sr. are active in Gray United Methodist Church in nearby Gray, Ga., and Warren Selby Jr., his wife, Tana, and their two sons are equally active in Macon’s Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church. Both father and son have held leadership roles in the Methodist Church’s South Georgia Conference.
Warren Selby Jr. serves on the boards of Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church, Rotary Club of Downtown Macon, Chairman, Macon Regional Crimestoppers, Member of Shield Club, Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Chairman, District Trustees – North Central District of The United Methodist Church, Project Safe Neighborhood – Gang Task Force, Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation, Judicial Qualifications Commission – State of Georgia, and the Macon-Bibb County Board of Appeals.
Since 2000, he has assumed a hands-on role as board chairman for Macon Regional Crimestoppers. His leadership in the six-county program earned him the 2004 Citizen of the Year award from the Southeastern Crime Stoppers Association. In 2005 Crime Stoppers International named him Civilian Crime Stopper of the Year. He also has received Regional and State Community Service Awards from the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.
June 3, 2003, was declared C. Warren Selby Jr. Day by the City of Macon.
With such longstanding civic involvement, it comes as no surprise that Warren Associates can be counted on to respond when a need arises in the community. The company willingly engages in charitable projects such as installing a new roof on a poor widow’s leaky home as part of a Christmas charity event.
C.W. Selby Sr. and C. Warren Selby Jr. are active members of the Georgia Branch, Associated General Contractors, and each at different times has served on the association’s Board of Directors.
The family’s involvement in the company appears highly likely to continue into the third generation. For several years, Warren Selby III, the older of Warren Jr.’s two sons, has worked part time for the company and plans to major in building science and come home to work for the firm. A younger son, Mason, also is a potential successor to the business built by his grandfather and father.
Perhaps as important as the family’s ongoing service are the landmark buildings that Warren Associates has constructed throughout Middle Georgia. Said Warren Jr.,
“Our legacy will be here many years after we’re individually gone.”
