In July 2011, a special purpose local option sales tax included an agreement for Bibb County to absorb Macon’s engineering department. The county sought proposals for a $1 million renovation and expansion of an old engineering complex to accommodate the new Macon-Bibb County employees. Only eight weeks were allowed for the job’s completion. The project was completed early and well within budget.
